The Leader attends the
Arab Summit in Algeria
The Leader of the
Revolution has attended the opening session of the 17th Arab Summit,
which began Tuesday afternoon, in Algiers.
Upon the Leader's
arrival at the venue of the summit, at the Nations' palace in
Algiers, President Abdul Aziz Butfliqa of Algeria, accorded him a
special warm reception, and conducted a lengthy conversation which
was joined by Prime Minister, Ahmed O'yahia.
The Leader got into
the summit hall accompanied by Presidents Butfliqa and President
Omar Hassan al Basher of Sudan. There, the leader was warmly
embraced by President Zian al -Abdin Ben Ali of Tunisia, President
of the 16th session of the Arab summit.
Then, the opening
session of the 17th Arab Summit began by speech by President Zian
al-Abdin Ben Ali, who underlined the importance of Arab-African
partnership, calling for strengthening brotherly relations between
the Arabs and Africans through the African Union (AU).
During his speech
President Ben Ali, called for a one-minute silence, in tribute to
late Presidents, President of UAE, Sheikh Zaid Ben Sultan Al Nahian,
President Yassar Arafat of Palestine and Prime Minister Rafiq al
Hariri.
At the end of his
speech, President Ben Ali handed over the presidency of the current
session of the Arab Summit, to President Butfliqa.
For his part, the Arab
League Secretary General, Omar Musa, underlined the need that Arab
policy priorities realize changes taking place in the world, urging
for Arab African Union contacts.
