Libyan people to commemorate the 22nd anniversary of failed American Atlantic aggression.

[RCM 15.04.2008]

The Libyan people commemorated, yesterday Monday, April 17th their brave resistance against the failed American, Atlantic aggression on Great Jamahiriya in 1985. The aggression that violated human rights, sovereignty of people and countries as well as the international law.

The Libyan people frustrated targets of that aggression, for which America mobilized its strategic military capabilities, originally prepared to attack Warsaw Pact under the leadership of the Soviet Union that time. In a desperate attempt, America used NATO's strategic marine and air force bases in Britain, Europe and the Mediterranean Sea so that it might control Libya, which has been inciting the Arab unity, rejecting the Zionist existence, supporting the liberation movements in Africa, Asia and Latin America; and championing causes of Islam and Muslims sine eruption of the Great al-Fatah Revolution.

The objectives of this aggression were uncovered by a series of American open and secret hostile measures that preceded and paved the way for that aggression.

For example, American Assistant Secretary of State for African Affairs Shester Crooker declared in his report before the Senate Foreign Affairs Committee 0n the 10/ 07/ 1981 : '' The Libyan role in Africa constitutes danger on American interests in the continent. (…) America considers Libya responsible for the failure of American attempts to liquidate the Palestinian cause, which it uses to express that by American attempts to find a solution in the Middle East ''

The American CIA presented a secret report to Atlantic Alliance in November 1981 requesting Europe to stand against Libya. CIA warned the European countries in that report of what it described of Libya declaration to establish rapid intervention force, which is considered the only rapid intervention force in Africa.

These American hostile statements and political stands that preceded the direct military intervention on this same day coincided with a series of American moves and military maneuvers of American Fleets in the area and with American economic, technical military and scientific sanctions against Libya.

The Libyan people while commemorating this anniversary pray humbly to Allah the Almighty to bestow His mercy on the souls of its children, women and elderly whose bodies were torn up by American bombs while they were quietly asleep when Reagan and Margaret Thatcher carried out that outrageous aggression on the cities of Tripoli and Benghazi late at night and it targeted the leader of the Revolution and his family who were saved by the grace of Allah while those who carried the aggression had gone in the history dust pin. The Libyan people while commemorating this anniversary stresses his firm right for compensation on that aggression.

This was reiterated in all the resolutions issued by BPC'c regarding foreign policy during its regular annual session for 2007 which were drafted by the General People's Congress on 3rd of March of this year 2008 which stated “the necessity to follow up the arrangements to bring to justice those responsible for the American Atlantic aggression on Jamahiriya in the year 1986’.

The Libyan people, while commemorating the anniversary of their heroic confrontation of that aggression confirm that the language of ration, dialogue, diplomacy, respect of political and economic options of peoples, respect of their cultural identity and cooperation to serve mutual interests, are the best way to build confidence between nations in this era.

The Libyan people count on that due to the huge changes taking place in the international policy. The makers of such policies acknowledged that the Libyan people has become the object of great appreciation and respect in the world due to the boldness and wisdom of the leader of the Revolution in handling big battles and his deep vision and strategic analysis of the intellectual and political challenges facing the world of today; besides his pioneering and constant role to build fair and balanced international relations based on mutual respect and constructive cooperation between all peoples to bring out world peace and stability.

The free Libyan people confirm its readiness to develop its relations with the American people on the principle of evenness away from the logic of force that America realized today that it is in vain with people that believe in the right to live freely and in peace and security. In the mean time, rejecting the policy of arrogance and dictations, assuring that force can never defeat peoples, rather peoples are able to conquer the mightiest power...
