Tripoli, 28.12.2009 (JANA) Participants of the Scientific
Symposium on Agricultural Information's Role in Realizing
Food Security and Activating Arab Integration recommended
the activation of the specialized agricultural and
environmental information's role, and allow it to be within
the United Arab Media.
Recommendations called on specialized research centers and
Arab universities to show interest in Arab agricultural and
food security issues and means for realizing them in the
framework of Arab institutions.
The
recommendations also called for making farmers aware of
risks of genetically modified seeds and animals, which could
threaten the future of Arab agriculture and animal resources
and underlined the importance of cautioning Arab farmers on
the use of pesticides and chemical fertilizers and their
effects on public health and on agricultural lands and
surrounding environment in general.
The
recommendation call for the rational use of irrigation
waters to preserve this wealth and avoid the dangers of
desertification, and enlighten Arab farmers and breeders to
preserve Arab animal resources especially the local purebred
progenies. The recommendations underlined the importance of
developing the awareness of Arab farmers and the importance
of self-sufficiency and not to focus on the culture of
exporting products, and lay national marketing plans to
realize integration to reach Arab food security. |
